Newcomer Negros Island Region bagged 21 golds, 27 silvers, and 35 bronzes as of April 15, 2016 10:54 PM. PalarongPambansa 2016 closes today at the Bicol University Sports Complex.
The secured gold medals include that of Angel Ann Pranisa, of Tangub Elementary School, Bacolod City, who sets a new record on Athletics at 26.15 seconds in 200-meter dash.
Regional Director Gilbert Sadsad said, “There’s overwhelming joy and happiness in my heart with this unexpected result. Despite being a new region, more or less 3 months old, we were able to reach this victory. My congratulations to all the athletes and coaches for our success. Kudos to everyone.”
Reigning and defending champion NCR remains a distant lead with 100 golds, 56 silvers, and 47 bronzes while Region IV-A Calabarzon is a far second with 38-42-58 medals followed by Region VI-Western Visayas with 35-32-38, and Region VII-Central Visayas with 28-30-29 medals for the third and fourth places, respectively.
